Neskonlith Indian Band is looking for two Summer Student Workers to join their team. The Water Treatment Summer Students will work under the direction of the Neskonlith Indian Band Water Treatment Plant Manager or designate and mentor under various areas. The Water Treatment Summer Students will assist with maintenance and other areas to gain experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Neskonlith Indian Band policies and procedures
  • Assist with collecting and analyzing water samples to ensure water quality parameters (e.g., pH, turbidity, chlorine levels) meet regulatory standards
  • Assist with operation and monitoring of various equipment, including pumps, filters, and chemical feeders
  • Ensuring safety standards are followed by reporting hazards, securing materials, and using personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Assist with general maintenance tasks such as repairing plumbing systems
  • Assist with maintaining records related to inventory, maintenance and equipment use
  • Using tools such as drills, grinders, or saws under the supervision of skilled workers
  • Assist with clearing debris, leveling the ground, sweeping, and maintaining a clean and safe job site to prevent hazards
  • Moving building materials like wood and other supplies to the appropriate areas
  • Provide general office and/or janitorial duties as requested
  • Organize inventories of materials and supplies
  • Performs other duties as required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Maintain a level of physical fitness to continuously perform all duties required in this position including but not limited to excellent cardiovascular fitness, bending, lifting & carrying

WORKING CONDITIONS

Some travel to different work sites is required. The majority of the work is performed outdoors, but some work will be performed indoors as well.

EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs including Word, Excel & Outlook, Operational databases

***Equipment Needed: Steel Toe Boots, High Vis Shirt, Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Gloves

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Be able to work in differing weather conditions
  • Be able to safely work around and with heavy machinery
  • Eligible participants must be of Indigenous ancestry
  • Must have a Social Insurance Number and be at least 15 years of age
  • Must meet ASETS criteria for referral (Referral required before interview)
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance, with results acceptable to NIB

(provided at no cost to the individual)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Fixed term position 8 weeks: July 7, 2025 to August 29, 2025 Wage offered will be: $19.14 per hour

Hours per week: 37.5 – 40, with some flexibility in hours/days of work

Competition closes June 9th, 2025 at midnight, Pacific Time.
