Status: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Sk’astin Child Care Centre, Chase, BC
Salary: $31/hour (inclusive of the government wage enhancement)
Job Summary:
The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) is responsible for supporting the developmental needs and daily care of children enrolled at the Neskonlith Child Care Centre. Working under the general direction of the Education Director and Daycare Manager, the ECE helps implement a culturally rooted, play-based program in alignment with licensing standards and the centre’s philosophy.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all Neskonlith Indian Band policies and procedures
- Collaborate with the Room Lead to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities
- Provide high-quality care and active supervision of children
- Support daily routines such as meals, hygiene, rest time, outdoor play, circle time, and art activities
- Encourage individuality, problem-solving, and social-emotional development through play
- Assist in delivering programming that supports Shuswap language and cultural learning
- Maintain open, respectful communication with families and team members
- Respond promptly to children’s physical needs (diapering, toileting, rest, nutrition)
- Clean and sanitize toys, equipment, and high-touch surfaces regularly
- Keep the classroom and workspace organized, safe, and professional
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and field trips
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Minimum Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certificate
- Infant/Toddler and Special Needs certification (an asset)
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance
- Food Safe Certificate (an asset)
- Knowledge of or experience with First Nations culture and traditions (an asset)
- Dependability, punctuality, and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Team-oriented and flexible with a willingness to adapt to changing needs
