Position Overview

Under the direction of the principal, classroom teachers, and other educational personnel, the Certified Education Assistant supports students by providing care and learning assistance (training will be provided by appropriate personnel when required). This position requires an individual who works collaboratively as part of a team supporting the delivery and implementation of educational programs and services.

Salary & Work Details

Hours of work: (5.5) hrs per day, five (5) days per week

Duties to Commence: September 8, 2026, to closing ending June 30, 2027

Work Year Base: Ten (10) months per year

Commencing Salary: $31.09 – $33.46 Based on certification and years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in the delivery and implementation of educational programs
  • Support the integration, growth, learning, safety, and comfort of students with a variety of educational, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Work with adult learners and high school students who may require additional
  • Support youth with learning disabilities and students on modified or alternate programs (primarily in the classroom setting).
  • Provide occasional pull-out support for individuals or small groups, as
  • Provide instructional support to students to implement educational programs as determined by the teacher, resource team, or administrator, and offer students feedback for completion of daily work.
  • Construct or locate instructional materials, games, displays, and learning centres to enhance student engagement and learning.
  • Operate computers, audiovisual equipment, and various other technology, including adaptive technology as required for student learning.
  • Supervise students’ completion of educational activities as outlined in their Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and observe and record academic and behavioural assessment data to assist teachers with monitoring progress.
  • Copy, transcribe, type, file, and maintain records to support classroom and administrative needs.
  • Implement behaviour management programs as determined by the teacher or resource
  • Provide personal and health care, as well as physical safety assistance, to students when
  • Attend team and parent or professional development meetings as
  • Assist in the implementation of programs requiring intensive behaviour
  • Supervise students as needed in the classroom, gym (locations TBD), school, school grounds, during the loading and unloading of bus(es), and on community field
  • Foster student independence and appropriate peer
  • Work collaboratively as a member of a team, supporting a positive and inclusive educational
  • Attend specific workshops at the direction of the Principal and Director of Education as required for professional growth and student support.
  • Perform other job-related assigned comparable duties as directed, which are within the knowledge and skills required by the job description.

Qualifications & Attributes

  • Grade 12 or
  • Must be wiling to maintain current CPI
  • Level 1 First Aid Certificate may be
  • Education Assistant Certificate, which includes documented training in the following areas:
  • Pervasive developmental disorders, including ASD, FASD and complex behavioural
  • Developmental and sensory needs and
  • Technology assisted programs (ie. Augmentative communication devices, Boardmaker, Apps and other software).
  • Behaviour support: conflict resolution, anger management, nonviolent behavioural interventions, behaviour/safety/crisis/emergency plans.
  • Learning challenges: learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning
  • Formal POPARD training or
  • Proven ability to remain calm in difficult
  • Proven ability to develop positive relationships with
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible/adaptable when faced with new or challenging situations.
  • Physical ability to keep up with an active child or
  • Ability to work independently and set
  • WHMIS Certificate and other online safety training provided by the department of education to be completed within the probationary period.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a
  • Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search prior to starting
