Following feedback received from membership since the last Election, Chief and Council (the “Council”) has started the process to amend the Neskonlith Custom Election Regulation (the “Current CER”) into a new Custom Election and Governance Code. The proposed changes create one unified governing code for Neskonlith to improve and expand upon the Current CER in a way that better incorporates Secwépemc practices, increases the transparency and accountability of Council, encourages more Candidates to run for office, and protects the integrity of each Member’s voting rights.

The decision on whether or not the proposed amendments will be made by Band vote at a Band meeting to be held at the following time and place:

Electors who are unable to attend the meeting on July 25, 2026, are encouraged to vote by mail. Mailed votes must be received by July 24, 2026.

Request for Feedback Before Vote

A draft of the proposed new Custom Election and Governance Code (the “Draft Proposed CEGC”) has been posted on the Band’s website and made available at the Band’s Administration Office for Member review and comment. You are encouraged to review the Draft Proposed CEGC and to provide your feedback to Council by July 2, 2026, for consideration in the final version that will be brought forward for voting. 

Council will review and consider all comments on the Draft Proposed CEGC for incorporating into a final version of the Custom Election and Governance Code (the “Proposed CEGC”). Once finalized for voting, the Proposed CEGC will be posted on the Band’s website and made available at the Band’s Administration Office, along with a A full package, including the Notice and Summary of Proposed Amendments and a mail-in voting package, has being mailed to all voting Band Member’s at the most recent mailing address that Neskonlith’s Indian Register Administrator has on file. If you are concerned that the Indian Register Administrator does not have a current mailing address for you, please contact adminassistant@neskonlith.ca ASAP to update your address and be sent a new package.
