Position: K-12 Education Coordinator

Reporting To:  Education Director

Status: Part-time, indeterminant

Salary Range: $22.00 – $28.00 per hour

 

Summary of Position:

To provide support to the Neskonlith Students attending school in the SD 83 Salmon Arm School District.  In addition, will provide support to the Education Director.

 

Responsibilities:

Key Tasks

  • Assist and guide student queries re: class scheduling, busing, tutoring etc;
  • Prepare yearly school Calendar;
  • Liaise with schools on programs;
  • Liaise with students when needed;
  • Keep student records and files current;
  • Answer phone and direct call or messages;
  • Advise teachers/Director of Education of issues relating to school;
  • Organize regular monthly meetings with each school to review student progress and follow up with recommendations and program initiatives to assist our students success;
  • Attend K-12 School District Advisory meetings;
  • Seek funding to support student progress;
  • Complete the K-12 Nominal Roll reporting documents;
  • Plan, support and attend graduations for Neskonlith K-12 students;
  • Plans that include projects for student success
  • Assist Director of Education with administrative duties as needed;
  • Assist with other education administrative duties as required;

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge:

  • Current Education issues that affect First Nations people and communities;
  • Relevant Education services to access;
  • Neskonlith community, culture and Secwepemc values

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent computer knowledge;
  • Office administration knowledge;
  • Knowledge of First Nation Educational Agreements, and the public school system;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, consensus decision making and communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Experience working in education field is preferred;
    • Knowledge of INAC Education Policies;
    • Class 5 driver’s license and own vehicle.

Personal Attributes:

  • Acceptable and current RCMP Criminal Record Check (original);
  • Have and maintain a valid BC driver’s licence as a condition of employment and have access to a reliable vehicle;
  • Travel as required;
  • Demonstrated practice of confidentiality.

 

Experience Required:

  • 1 – 2 years of post-secondary education preferred;
  • Education and office management;
  • Program development, coordination and planning;
  • Record and file management
